Natural Resource Unit Info Database
NRUID
NRSS programs and applications require a reference for alpha codes, names and related information for NPS units (parks, offices, affiliates). These data are used in web applications, desktop applications, and databases to link information to an NPS unit or units.
The NPS Inventory and Monitoring and Natural Resource GIS Programs maintain the NRSS NPS Unit Information Database (NRUID), an up-to-date, but unofficial, database of NPS units.
This unofficial NPS unit list is a superset of legislated unit, organizational unit, pending unit, and office information managed by other NPS offices and programs. This list includes over 640 unit records. Each unit is identified by a unique 4- to 8-character alphabetic code.
Initially, this information was stored in MSAccess as AddressXP.mdb. Currently, NRUID is maintained in SQL Server 2005. NRUID contains 11 primary tables and views/queries for generating unit pick lists. Nineteen auxiliary tables contain lookup, audit, and application placeholder data. The database is structured to optimize access to NPS unit data for Natural Resource applications but is not the official NPS source of this information. This database references official NPS sources for unit information including ParkNet (www.nps.gov), the NPS Office of Public Affairs, the NPS Organizational Code Database maintained by NISC and the NPS Lands Division.
