Instructions for Downloading

Before downloading, read the document "Replacing Components of the NPSpecies Desktop Application"

The NPSpecies desktop application consists of one MS-Access application file and four MS-Access data files:

    Application/User-Interface File (NPSpecies97.mdb or NPSpeciesXP.mdb)
    • Used to start NPSpecies
    • Contains the graphical components, including the forms used to enter data
    • Links the four data files

    Four NPSpecies Data Files

    1. Working Data File: NPSpecies_data.mdb or [ParkCode]_data.mdb (for ex. ACAD_data.mdb for Acadia)
    • the "empty" Working Data file (i.e. contains no data)
    • OR
    • a file populated with data (by a user or downloaded from the online NPSpecies application)
    2. Master Data File - Standard Classification Module (StdClass_master.mdb)
    • Contains scientific names, common names, relationships between names, etc.
    3. Master Data File - Parks Module (Parks_master.mdb)
    • Contains park names, park codes, park types, park counties, etc.
    4. Match Data File – Threatened & Endangered (T&E) Module (TandE_master.mdb)
    • Contains names, status information, population information for the following:
      • Federally Listed Names
      • NatureServe Global Ranks
      • State Listed Names
  • Download the Working Data File containing no data to conduct exports and imports.
  • Once you have copied the *.zip file to your hard disk, extract the file(s).
