Master Data Files

These files contain data that are updated periodically by the Service-wide I&M program. They only need to be downloaded when new versions become available. A user of the NPSpecies Application/User-Interface cannot change data in these files.

A word about Taxonomy:

NPSpecies is being developed in tandem with the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS), which is a partnership of Federal agencies that provide scientifically credible and standardized taxonomic information about the nation’s biota.  Each taxon in the NPSpecies database is associated with a unique Taxonomic Serial Number (TSN), as well as the authority, taxonomic rank, associated synonyms and common names, and data quality indicators.
