The Great Lakes Inventory & Monitoring Network (GLKN) is an office of the National Park Service (NPS) that assists nine NPS units in monitoring their natural resources, and works to put the park information in a regional context. The nine units extend from the boreal forests of northern Minnesota to the sand dunes of southern Lake Michigan. Together they represent the major freshwater ecosystems and terrestrial landforms of the Upper Midwest.
The park units in the Network are:- Apostle Islands National Lakeshore (APIS)
- Grand Portage National Monument (GRPO)
- Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (INDU)
- Isle Royale National Park (ISRO)
- Mississippi National River and Recreation Area (MISS)
- Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (PIRO)
- St. Croix Scenic Riverway (SACN)
- Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (SLBE)
- Voyageurs National Park (VOYA).
The organizational structure of the network comprises GLKN staff, Board of Directors, Technical Advisory Committee, and Science Advisory Group.
Finding and Contacting the Great Lakes I&M Network

The Great Lakes Network Office is co-located with the USGS Upper Great Lakes Science Center and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Ashand National Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office, in Ashland Wisconsin. The Network office is located on US Hwy 2 (Lake Shore Dr.), on the east side of Ashland, Wisconsin. Enter the door facing the highway towards the east end of the building, and the Network office is directly ahead, down a short hallway.
