Image Management Schema

The digital age of technology is a very good thing, it is giving us more tools combined together, in ever smaller packages (i.e. cell phones with cameras, GPS with PDAs). Unfortunately, it also has it's downside, such as the ease of access and use of digital cameras, field crews and other park staff are producing hundreds of images monthly, even weekly. This generates a two-fold problem that didn't exist in the SLR (35mm single-lens reflex) age; 1) filling up of hard and network drives with numerous large image files and 2) no documentation of the hundreds of images stored. Do we just continue to purchase and install more and larger drives, or do we provide a tool to reduce the number of necessary images and document them for everyone to be able to know and use them? The Mojave I&M and the network of parks are working towards the later of these two options.
The Mojave I&M Network and associated parks are working to design, develop, and implemnet an Image Management Schema or digital asset management for the hundreds of digital images produced by park and network staff. The MOJN has identified a small group (the IMS Working Group) of interested park and network staff to work together on a collaborative effort for the parks and network. The IMS Working Group's Sharepoint site for collaborative discussions and the sharing of docuements is at; http://inppwrosharept:36961/PWR/JOTR/mojn/default.aspx (this requires an M&M network active directory login to access, this is not a publicly accessible site).
Listed below in the table are the docuements and files available for download relevant to the working group and our teleconference discussions.
