Inventories

In the mid-1990's, the NPS Inventory and Monitoring Program began a long-term initiative to complete a set of 12 basic natural resource inventories for each NPS unit with significant natural resources. This effort is ongoing and scheduled for completion in 2010. In 2000, as part of this overall inventory effort, vertebrate and vascular plant inventories were begun in all 32 I&M Networks. Later that year, the Appalachian Highlands and Cumberland Piedmont Networks completed a joint Inventory Study Plan, which laid out a sampling design and general methods for conducting inventories for these taxonomic groups. APHN inventories (including vegetation mapping) were initiated in 2001 and are nearing completion. An inventory status table and links to completed documents follows:

(Click below for a public release version (PDF) of each inventory report. Active links are in brown. "Certified" indicates that species information has been reviewed for accuracy and incorporated into NPSpecies.)
