Inventories

The Inventory and Monitoring Program provides guidance, funding, and technical assistance for parks to complete a set of 12 "basic" natural resource inventories. These basic inventories are common to all parks with significant natural resources, and are intended to provide park managers with the minimum information needed to effectively manage the natural resources of their park. The Inventory Tracking Database allows you to select and view the inventory status and products of all I&M networks. Additional information can be found at these links to the 12 basic inventories...

Natural resource inventories are being conducted in Chihuahuan Desert park units for a range of natural resources, including the presence and distribution of vertebrate animals and vascular plants, vegetation, as well as, soils, geologic and paleontological features. The primary goal is to provide park managers with scientifically sound information they can use for on-the-ground resource management.
The Chihuahuan Desert Network parks developed a detailed Study Plan in 2001 outlining the plan for biological inventory of vertebrates and vascular plants in the network parks. The plan, which served as a road map for the network, identified park-specific priorities and specific components involved in conducting inventories for vascular plants and vertebrate animal inventories. Product results of these inventories are located on the Reports and Publications page of this website.
