Data Management
The Network's Data Management Program
"A primary purpose of this program [Inventory and Monitoring] is to develop, organize, and make available natural resource data and to contribute to the Service's institutional knowledge by facilitating the transformation of data into information through analysis, synthesis, and modeling." (from the peer review guidance for the monitoring plan reviewers)
Good data management is critical for preserving the security, integrity, and reliability of data. Our program emphasizes data management, including all phases of data handling (planning, collection, entry, analysis, reporting, evaluation, maintenance, and archiving), as integral to our inventory and monitoring efforts. This section of the web site contains information on data management activities, guidelines, databases, help documents, and standards for the Klamath Network.
To help ensure the data collected by the Network is of the highest quality and thoroughly documented, the Network has developed a data management plan and several guideline documents that provide details on how data are managed by the Network. The data management plan provides general information and directions for data management activities required by the Network. Many of the data management methods are dependent on the individual projects. Standard operating procedures (SOP), protocols, and guideline documents will be developed as the Network begins the monitoring aspect of the program. These documents provide the details on how to manage data for each monitoring or inventory project.
