Inventories
Network Geology Inventory
The NPS Geologic Resources Evaluation (GRE) Program is a cooperative endeavor to implement a systematic, comprehensive inventory of the geologic resources in NPS units. Cooperators include the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD), NPS Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Program, Colorado State University, U.S. Geological Survey, individual state geological surveys, and many academic institutions. The GRE for the park units with significant natural resources consists of four principle products:
- Scoping Meetings: Held at parks to inventory and review available data on park geology and to discuss geologic issues and features. A scoping summary report is produced from the meeting discussion.
- Digital Geologic-GIS Data: Includes geology-GIS data layers and ancillary tables, data layer symbology, FGDC metadata, and supporting ancillary map text and graphics.
- Geologic Report: Includes the basic geologic information on geologic setting and history, geologic hazards, and other geologic-related issues. In addition, geologic-related reports provide a brief geologic history of the park and address specific geologic formation properties, thus providing a critical link between the geologic map and the resource manager.
- Geologic bibliographies: These are an attempt to locate all known park geologic references.
The GRE is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD), which also hosts a GRE program home page, as well as a GRE publications page. The current status for each park is included in the table below.
