Explore Park Science:

The Mediterranean Coast Network of parks encompasses a wide range of ecosystems and processes characteristic of the Mediterranean Biome.  Park scientists and cooperating researchers are engaged in a variety of efforts to identify, understand, protect, and restore both natural and cultural resources in the region.  The status and trends of marine ecosystems, the effects of urbanization and habitat fragmentation on species and their habitats, and the effects of non-native species invasion and restoration actions are just some of the issues network scientists are working to address today.  Some studies are part of the network inventory program, while others may be associated with long-term ecosystem vital sign monitoring.  Park scientists and cooperators are also involved in many site or issue-specific projects, such as studies to evaluate restoration or resource management actions.   Overall, the scientific endeavors underway at network parks form an integrated program that is critical for effective preservation and mangement of resources across the Mediterranean Coast Network of parks.
