NPS Midwest Region GIS Custom Controls Troubleshooting
Following are some problems that may have occurred when trying
to install or run one of the NPS custom controls. If you cannot
find help for your particular problem on this web-page, feel
free to contact Jim Dabrowski by email for assistance.
Control appears "greyed out" and does not work.
Most of the custom controls are typically designed only to
be active when an appropriate object is selected in the ArcCatalog
browser pane. For example, if the control only works on data
tables, then the control will only be active if a data table
is selected and will appear "greyed out" if something
like a feature class is selected. Make sure the appropriate
object is selected for a given control.
Control does not appear in the Commands list after I've
added it.
We have found that occasionally the controls must first be
added to ArcCatalog as an Administrator. After that has been
done, they then appear to other users to add to custom toolbars.
Try adding the control while running ArcCatalog as an Adminstrator,
then repeat the steps as a normal user.
The control did not work properly and now the custom button
on the toolbar says "Unknown"
When the control crashes, it may not recover properly and
therefore does not display the proper name on the button.
If this happens, please notifiy Jim Dabrowski of the circumstances
of the crash so that it may be fixed in a future release.
Then, re-start ArcCatalog and the control should be re-initialized
and work properly.
