National Capital Region Network - About Us

The National Capital Region I&M Program was started in 2000 and is based at the Center for Urban Ecology (CUE) loacted on the grounds of Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC. In addition to housing the NCRN I&M Program, CUE houses a number of regional natural resource personnel as well as the regional EPMT Team and Resource Learning Center.

The Network is overseen by a Board of Directors (BOD) consisting mostly of park superintendents. Park resource managers and local subject matter experts came together to form the Network's Science Advisory Committee (SAC) which provided invaluable input while the Network prepared its vital signs monotiroing progam. Biological inventories aimed to identify at least 90% of the vertebrates and vascular plants in the Network parks began shortly after the inception of the Network. The initial inventories are complete but the network recently started two additional inventories aimed at identifying under represented taxonomic groups. The Network monitoring program began with the formation of the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) which consisted of natural resource managers and local subject matter experts. The SAC played a significant role in helping identify the final list of vital signs that will be monitored by the NCRN. prepare
