Northern Great Plains Network

Park Species Lists

Prairie Grasses
One of the primary goals of the Northern Great Plains Network (NGPN) is to develop and maintain certified vascular plant and vertebrate species lists for each network park. The information presented in these web-based species lists are subsets of data managed in NPSpecies, which is the master biodiversity database for the National Park Service, and is the tool used by the NGPN for meeting this goal.

Certification

The species lists presented here have all gone through a certification process. This involves the evaluation and review of the species information by local experts and park staff. During certification, participants review the information on Park Status (Present in Park, Probably Present, Historic, Encroaching, Unconfirmed, False Report), Abundance (Abundant, Uncommon, Common, Rare, Occasional, Unknown), Residency (Breeder, Resident, Migratory, Vagrant, Unknown), and Nativity (Native, Non-Native, Unknown). They also decide on the nomenclature for scientific names, guided by the Integrated Taxonomic Information System. These files are in Microsoft Excel format. They are static file downloads from NPSpecies. Changes can occur over time, so please check with the Network to ensure you have the most recent data.

If you have questions or would like further information related to these species lists, please contact Marcia Wilson of the NGPN. Species lists for the individual parks can be found by selecting the park name below.
