Air Quality Data and Related Values
The NPS Air Resources Division manages and summarizes air quality data for the NPS. Available information for the PACN can be found through the Air Resources Information System (ARIS). Visibility is monitored at Haleakala NP and Hawaii Volcanoes NP, the two Class I parks in the network. In addition, wet deposition was monitored for some years at Hawaii Volcanoes NP and sulfur dioxide is still being monitored at this park. Because of the lack of nearby stations from the major air quality monitoring networks included in ARIS, air quality estimates are not available and ozone injury risk assessments were not done for the PACN parks.
Additional air quality monitoring is conducted by NOAA Earth Systems Research Laboratories on Hawaii and American Samoa and the Hawaii State Department of Health (see links below).
