Climate Inventory
Climate is widely recognized as a major driver for terrestrial and marine ecosystems, affecting biotic as well as abiotic ecosystem attributes (see figure below). It is important for park managers and researchers to have access to baseline data and weather station information.
Products:- Weather Station Locations (inside and outside parks) - all PACN parks: in preparation
- Weather Station Metadata: in preparation
- Climate Inventory Report, completed 2006: Natural Resource Technical Report NPS/PACN/NRTR—2006/003 (2.5 Mb pdf file)
- Climate Atlas: monthly and annual temperature, precipitation, and dew point averages for the period 1971-2000, in Hawaii, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Palau, and Federated States of Micronesia. Completed 2006, both GIS data and map graphics are available:
- NPS DataStore
- Oregon State University, PRISM Group
(Note: The last two sites provide identical data via different interfaces)
Status
No additional climate inventory products or revisions are planned,
beyond completing the above items. Additional data and previous versions
of climate inventory products may be found at the NPS
Data Store. Current plans emphasize preparing
and implementing a long-term monitoring protocol for climate in the
PACN.
- PACN Air Quality & Climate Report (476Kb pdf file)
- I&M Climate Inventory Information
- Pacific Island Regional Assessment of the Consequences of Climate Change and Variablility
- Pacific ENSO Applications Center
- Natural Resources Conservation Service – National Water and Climate Center
- National Weather Service – Pacific Region Headquarters
- Western Regional Climate Center
Acknowledgements
The climate atlas was prepared in cooperation with
the Oregon
State University PRISM Group. Weather station location,
metadata, and the inventory report are produced and maintained with
the cooperation of the Western
Regional Climate Center, Desert Research Institute.
