Species Distribution Inventory

"The value of biodiversity is more than the sum of its parts."  - Byran G. Norton

The goal of the biological inventories conducted through the I&M program is to collect baseline data and to document 90% of vascular plants and vertebrates present.  Furthermore, the aim is to describe the distribution and relative abundance of species of special concern or management interest.

An initial phase of inventories was funded for all I&M networks to address a general lack of credible information about park resources. These inventories were completed to plan for long-term monitoring of some of the resources.  However, inventories are an ongoing effort and will be conducted based on need and available funding.
