Species Distribution Inventory
"The value of biodiversity is more than the sum of its parts." - Byran G. Norton
The goal of the biological inventories conducted through the I&M program is to collect baseline data and to document 90% of vascular plants and vertebrates present. Furthermore, the aim is to describe the distribution and relative abundance of species of special concern or management interest.

Status
An initial phase of inventories was funded for all I&M networks to address a general lack of credible information about park resources. These inventories were completed to plan for long-term monitoring of some of the resources. However, inventories are an ongoing effort and will be conducted based on need and available funding.
Acknowledgements
Acquiring biological inventories data requires many collaborations and partnerships. The Pacific Island Network has been working with staff at individual national parks, the US Geological Survey, the Bernice P. Bishop Museum, the University of Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific Islands Cooperative Ecosystem Studies U, and other agencies and institutions.
