Monitoring
The Pacific Island Network Vital Sign Monitoring Plan guides all facets of monitoring and addresses the network's monitoring goals. The network identifies the ecological components, structure, and function in each park and presents conceptual models to facilitate communication and understanding. Vital Signs—a subset of physical, chemical, and biological elements and processes of park ecosystems that are selected to represent the overall health or condition of park resources, known or hypothesized effects of stressors, or elements that have important human values—are identified and prioritized. Protocols, including data management plans and analytical methods, will be available for implemented Vital Signs.
Water Quality monitoring in Pacific Island Network parks is integrated with other Vital Signs. However, additional planning materials for water quality and a water quality appendix to the monitoring plan are available.
- The final Pacific Island Network Vital Sign Monitoring Plan is available. Previous versions are superseded.
- Vital Sign monitoring protocols are in preparation. Monitoring protocols and additional details on individual Vital Signs will be made available as materials are prepared.
