Application Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need to contact park research coordinators to tell them I have saved an application in this system? A: No. When you save a new application in this system an electronic message will automatically be sent to the research coordinator at the park you selected. The message will explain the new application has been saved and encourage the research coordinator to begin the review process. If the application remains in the system longer than 30 days without being placed "under review", a message will automatically be sent to you and the park manager suggesting there may be a problem and encouraging you to contact the park. Return to Top Q: Can I apply to conduct the same study in more than one park? A: Yes. When you save a new application in this system, the software will ask if you would like to apply to another park for a permit. If you respond "Yes", a copy of the previously saved permit application will be made for the additional park you designate. In most cases, staff at each individual park will analyze the proposed study and process the application. Different parks within the U.S. National Park System have different resources and other factors that will affect approval of each request to conduct a scientific study. In some cases, parks adjacent to each other geographically or managing similar resources may agree to approve a single permit covering field activities at more than one park unit. If this occurs, one park will normally take the lead responsibility for processing the permit application and ensuring staff at both parks are aware of the activities and involved in the analysis of the study proposal. It is currently unlikely more than two or three parks may collaborate to issue a single permit. It is the responsibility of the applicant to review the park-specific conditions stipulated by each park before applying for a permit and again if permission is granted. Q: What are the general National Park Service research conditions? A: National Park Service general conditions for scientific research and collecting permit Return to Top Q: What are the application procedures and requirements for scientific research and collecting permit? When prompted to upload your files, skip the uploads and complete your application. Once your application is submitted, you may send your attachments via email to the research coordinator of the park you applied to.
