The headwaters of the Alagnak Wild River lie within the rugged Aleutian Range of neighbouring Katmai National Park and Preserve. Meandering west towards Bristol Bay and the Bering Sea, the Alagnak traverses the beautiful Alaska Peninsula, providing an unparalleled opportunity to experience the unique wilderness, wildlife, and cultural heritage of southwest Alaska.

Inventories have been completed for birds, mammals, fish, and vascular plants in the Alagnak. Because of its remote location, monitoring activities in Alagnak are limited and instead take place in neighboring Katmai National Park and Preserve.
